State Fair A Great Fair....



It's been a couple of weeks and I had planned on blogging immediately after we got home from the fair but life happens when you're busy making plans, right?
The second and third week of the October the state fair is held just south of Raleigh. It a great time! You can see everything North Carolina, from local crafts and vendors, to learning about local farming, see the blue ribbon cattle, sheep, chickens, pies, brownies, jams and so so SO much more!
I was FIRST introduced to this great event by miss Katherine Mann a native of Raleigh. We rode the farris wheel, watched fire works and ate fried twinkies and was glorious!

The second time I took Randy and we went with Tom and Crystal and it was still glorious! (Yes I believe fairs of any kind are glorious!)

Last year I didn't get to go because I was working on a saturday and was pretty depressed by it.
THIS YEAR, THIS YEAR we got to go because I no longer work weekends and yes, it was GLORIOUS!
This year because the weather was supposed to be absolutely perfect we knew we had to go early before the mass crowds showed up.
We met up with Tom, Crystal and baby Ashlyn at 8:30 am and grabbed some dunkin coffee and muffins and headed up to Raleigh. We found our parking lot and begin our state fair adventure.

This year since we arrived so early we decided to go see the craft and art vendors and see the elementary, middle school and high school art and photography, which was quite fantastic.
We cruised through and checked out the pottery and ceramics tent and then hit the got to be NC farmers market area.

We took a little break because miss Ashlyn decided she was hungry and then started towards the game  vendors. Randy and Tom are competitive, we usually pick one or two games that we think we can win something out of. Most times it's the basketball free throw shooting or the water gun game. This year Tom spent and WON his money worth on the free throw game, which was pretty excited because he initially didn't think he made but it went it and we all cheered. Randy won his moneys worth on the water gun game and got us a HUGE pink pig. He was proud and happy and we had to lug it around half the morning.

Next if was off to fine FOOD! Here's my reasoning with the fair, you never just go to the fair to see the food and calorie counters should never ever go to the fair. You go to the fair to eat greasy, sugary, over the top delicious processed and over priced food without any complaint. So we ate corn dogs, cheese fries, ice cream, cheese steaks, fried oreos and we saved our favorite stand for last. The pretzel stand. It's right by the entrance that we park at and we save it for last because we eat them in the car. The are better than "Auntie Ann's" or "Pretzel time" It's heaven rolled in to a doughy twist and baked! Both couples got 3, One for the walk to the car and one to share on the ride home.

We had a great time at the fair and we beat the monumental crowds that showed up while we were leaving!
Can't wait until next year!!!!!
